HOWL WEARS… TEXAN WINTER

HOWL Wears...Texan Winter

Jumper – H&M / Skirt – eBay / Cowboy boots – vintage Wrangler

WHAT HONOR THINKS SHE’S WEARING:

“As I truly believe that I am a member of the Ewing family – the Texan oil dynasty from Dallas – I decided to deal with our crappy English weather by dressing like Lucy Ewing during a good ol’ 23° Texan winter. White cowboy boots were obvious because they are so deliciously dated and a little bit awful. The striped cheerleader skirt (WITH braces) was very Lucy indeed and the addition of a 60s knit made it perfect for a Texan winter – or an English summer.”

WHAT A NORMAL PERSON THINKS SHE’S WEARING:

“You know those days when you stay out a bit too late on a school night? You promise yourself that you’ll get up early so that you’ll get to work on time and in a presentable fashion. But inevitably, you wake up late and rush to work in the clothes that you wore the day before with a headache that just won’t quit. Well, I think that’s what happened to Honor this day. Only she wasn’t at a club the night before – she was at a rodeo.

I imagine it was the type with podgy old men in Stetsons propping up the bar, where you dance to Johnny Cash and Randy Travis until the early hours of the morning. Because if that’s the case, this outfit makes complete sense. My only other explanation is that she just ran out on her country wedding and stashed the dress but didn’t have any spare shoes. White cowboy boots probably haven’t been popular as actual every-day fashion since Dolly Parton was 16, and even then they were questionable.

One guy said that she looked ‘like a Manga cowgirl-schoolgirl superhero’. Yeah, we weren’t sure if that was a compliment either. Someone else looked at her boots and simply stated ‘I wouldn’t wear them’. We can only assume that it’s because he knows he doesn’t have the matching hat and spurs, and feels justifiably inadequate.

But oh, cowboy boots. Sweet, sweet cowboy boots. I’m their biggest fan. I sincerely believe the world would be a better place if everyone wore cowboy boots every single day of their lives. They look amazing and they are the only shoes suitable for absolutely every type of weather and work well for posh occasions AND stomping through mud.

So the cowboy boots get my heart-felt approval. But don’t fret, there are plenty of ways to work easy Southern charm without looking like you have a rodeo hangover.”

WEAR IT WITHOUT PEOPLE THROWING STONES AT YOU:

“It doesn’t have to be white boots and Dallas knitwear. Cowboy is so great for this weird summer/autumn hybrid we’re in right now because you can go at it with bare festival legs or thick woolly tights – just chuck a denim shirt over it and you’re good to go.  Jeffrey Campbell is by no means a HOWL fave but there are some mean lookin’ ankle boots of his at Office that are begging for jeans and a sheer shirt with collar tips on the cold-warm-cold days that are confusing us so much this summer.”
